Scientific Activity

Through its activity of experimental development, consultancy, transfer of results, training and dissemination, technological monitoring SSICA aims to provide answers to general problems concerning the processing activity while intervening on the whole agri-food production chain to improve quality and safety standards.

The Foundation operates on the national territory through the Parma Headquarters (PR) and the detached Section in Angri (SA).

The Experimental Station for the Food Preserving Industry aims to promote the scientific and technological progress of the Italian food preserving industry though research, consultancy and training activities. Its tasks also include assistance to companies and collaboration with public and private bodies. Thanks to its specialized staff and advanced technological laboratories, SSICA ranks among the most important applied research institutions in the preserved food sector in Europe and in the rest of the world.

The Institute organizational structure includes both areas specific to different product sectors and areas in charge of inter-sectoral and multidisciplinary activities which are intended to support the companies in the food sectors of competence. With its cutting-edge scientific equipment, knowledge and skills the Foundation aims at experimenting innovative technological processes also through “factory pilot” productions, with studies on materials and new packaging techniques aiming to improve safety, hygiene and shelf-life conditions as well as to boost the nutritional and beneficial effects of the foods themselves, with a view to enhancing their health principles
